If you have entered into an Assured Shorthold Tenancy Agreement in or after 2012, your landlord is required (by law) to protect your deposit within a government-backed deposit protection scheme within 30 days of receipt, using one of the following schemes:
- Tenancy Deposit Solutions Limited (TDSL), also known as MyDeposits
- The Deposit Protection Service (DPS)
- The Tenancy Deposit Scheme run by the Dispute Service Limited (TDS)
In addition to the above, your landlord must provide you with details of the whereabouts of your deposit together with a leaflet with respect to the scheme, this must be done by your landlord within 30 days of receipt of the deposit.
